Black Metro Tile Bathroom Installation in London

Bathroom tiling needs to provide a practical surface while also bringing the design of the room together. At Abel Tiler, we complete bathroom tiling projects across London, with careful attention given to preparation, layout, alignment and finishing details.

For this project, we installed glossy black metro tiles across the bathroom walls and contrasting star-patterned tiles over the floor. A decorative border was also incorporated into the wall layout, giving the bathroom a distinctive finish while visually connecting the dark walls with the patterned flooring.

Combining Bold Wall Tiles with a Patterned Floor

This bathroom required a detailed tile installation around several fixed features, including a window, pipework, plumbing connections and recessed wall sections. The goal was to create a bold interior with consistent wall tiling and a decorative floor that would become the main focal point.

Glossy rectangular metro tiles were used across the walls. Their reflective black surface gives the room depth and catches the available natural light from the window. Light-coloured grout lines create definition between the individual tiles and highlight the staggered layout.

For the floor, monochrome tiles featuring a repeating star design were selected. The geometric pattern adds character to the bathroom and provides a strong contrast with the simpler wall arrangement. Decorative tiles along the upper wall section introduce another considered detail without competing with the floor.

Detailed Tiling Around the Bathroom Features

We began by assessing the wall and floor areas and planning how each tile pattern would sit within the room. Setting out was especially important because the wall tiles needed to meet neatly around the window, recessed sections and plumbing points.

The black metro tiles were installed in a staggered brick-style pattern. We used tile spacers and levelling clips throughout the installation to maintain consistent joints and keep neighbouring tiles aligned. Because the tiles have a glossy surface, variations in alignment would have been particularly visible once the room lighting reflected across the walls.

Extra care was needed around the window. We measured and cut the tiles individually so that the layout could continue cleanly along the sides and beneath the sill. The wall recesses also required accurate internal and external cuts to keep the edges straight and the joint lines coordinated.

We planned the positions of the wall tiles around the exposed pipework and fittings rather than leaving oversized or uneven openings. Close-fitting cuts around these points help create a more professional result and make the later installation of bathroom fixtures easier.

A decorative border was positioned along the upper section of the tiled walls. We kept this feature level around the room so that it formed a continuous line and gave the installation a clear visual finish.

On the floor, the patterned tiles were set out before the main installation to determine the most balanced starting position. With a repeating star design, every tile must remain in the correct direction and alignment. We worked carefully across the floor, checking the pattern as each section was laid and making precise cuts around the room edges and plumbing connections.

A Striking Monochrome Bathroom Finish

The completed tiling gives the bathroom a bold and individual appearance. Glossy black metro tiles create a strong backdrop, while the star-patterned flooring adds contrast and makes the lower part of the room feel more decorative.

Accurate spacing, aligned joints and carefully shaped cuts around the window, recesses and pipework demonstrate the attention given to the less obvious parts of the installation. The decorative border completes the wall design and connects the different tiled surfaces.

This project reflects our approach to bathroom tiling: careful planning, precise fitting and close attention to how every surface works together.
