Patio Tiling Project Completed in London

Outdoor areas need a surface that is practical, durable and visually suited to the property. At Abel Tiler, we complete patio tiling and paving projects for customers across London, helping them turn worn or dated spaces into attractive areas that are easier to use and maintain.

For this project, we removed the old block paving and rebuilt the patio using larger, light-toned paving slabs. We also created a circular feature within the new layout, giving the finished space a distinctive focal point. The result is a cleaner, brighter and more coordinated outdoor area with carefully planned joints and neatly finished edges.

Replacing the Existing Patio Surface

The existing patio consisted mainly of small rectangular paving blocks that had become tired and uneven in appearance. The customer wanted to replace this surface and create a more modern outdoor setting.

One of the main considerations was choosing a layout that would work with the shape of the available space. Instead of installing every slab in a simple repeating pattern, we incorporated a circular centrepiece into the patio. This feature breaks up the straight lines of the surrounding slabs and gives the area a more individual appearance.

Large-format paving slabs were used across the main sections of the patio. Their light, varied colouring complements the surrounding walls, planting and exterior of the property. The natural variation between the slabs also adds character without making the completed design feel overly busy.

Creating the New Slab Layout

We began by lifting and removing the old paving blocks from the project area. Taking up the existing surface allowed us to inspect the space underneath and prepare it for the replacement paving. Good groundwork is essential because the appearance and stability of a patio depend on what lies beneath the visible surface.

Once the area had been cleared, we planned the new slab positions carefully. The layout needed to provide balanced joint lines while fitting around the property walls, doors, planted borders and existing edges.

Creating the circular feature required particularly accurate measurement and cutting. Each surrounding piece had to fit the curve while remaining aligned with the wider patio design. We positioned the slabs methodically, checking their level and spacing as the work progressed.

Careful cutting was also required around the perimeter and in narrower sections of the patio. These details are important because poorly fitted edge pieces can make an otherwise attractive installation look unfinished. We maintained consistent joints and avoided unnecessary small cuts wherever the available space allowed.

After the paving had been laid, we completed the joints and checked the surface for stability, alignment and an even overall finish. The completed installation combines practical outdoor use with a design feature that gives the patio its own identity.
